The Saints are those holy men and women who have gone before us, devoting their lives to God through many different paths like contemplative prayer, service, sickness, leadership, and the mission field. Catholics believe in the Communion of Saints – that is, the mystical body of Christ which neither separated by the span of ages or death.
These devout souls are recognized as people who drew as close to God as possible on earth, giving up family, riches, and security to serve God however they were called. Many paid the ultimate sacrifice with their lives as martyrs, a Greek word which means “witness”.
