Do you struggle with the best time to pray the Rosary?
If you’re like me, you probably struggle to find the best time to pray the Rosary throughout the day. While I would prefer to be able to pray it on my knees in the morning or evening, life too often gets in the way. But I do pray the Holy Rosary every single day. I think I’ve only missed once or twice in the past three years.
Praying the Rosary with the proper disposition
While I would like to be asking Mary for her intercession on my knees with my eyes closed, I have found other ways to pray. There is no magic formula for the Rosary. There is no “wrong way” to do it which will render the prayer useless. The most important aspect of the prayer is that you have the proper disposition. By this I mean you should quiet your heart and think about to whom you are praying, and place yourself in the presence of God. Be intentional about your prayer. Recognize in your heart that the Blessed Mother is interceding for you.
So how do I find the best time to pray the Rosary?
I often pray the Rosary first thing in the morning as I am getting ready for work. I listen to this recitation of the Rosary, which is also available on Amazon Music, as I shower and get dressed for work. No matter what I am doing, I do my best to raise my heart and mind to heaven and follow along closely with each Mystery. I spend about 18 minutes each morning on this prayer.
Sometimes when I have to drive an hour to a nearby city, I will pray the Rosary on the way. I will also pray as I am cleaning the house or cooking. For me, as long as I am doing an activity that does not require much strenuous thought, I am able to pray the Rosary.
For some, the best time to pray the Rosary is at night after the kids are in bed and the house is quiet and peaceful. I also like to sometimes pray when I am walking my dog in the evenings. I will sometimes pray and then do my Daily Examen.
Do I need to hold a Rosary in my hands to pray?
While I love to hold a Holy Rosary in my hands while praying, sometimes this is not possible. Again, it is not a requirement that you have a Rosary in your hands while you pray. You can also follow along with your fingers, or just mentally.
You can also consider getting a smaller one decade Rosary in the form of a bracelet or ring. Here are a couple of examples you can take with you anywhere!
In closing, the best time to pray the Rosary is really going to depend on your schedule. But more important than the best time to pray the Rosary is that you pray it every day. Make asking the Blessed Mother for her intercession a daily part of your routine.
